About Laser Plumb

A GREAT IDEA IS NOW A FRAMER'S BEST FRIEND!

A Need Becomes an Innovative New Tool

Picture
When framing any type of building, plumbing walls is an essential but time-consuming part of the process. Framers typically use a level that has one or more bubble vials. To plumb a wall the traditional way, one crew member holds the level and marks the top part of the wall with the alignment point or shows another crew member the  alignment.

The wall is then adjusted and measured  again,  and possibly again and again, to confirm that the wall is true. These repeat adjustments can kill productivity on the job site. And tall ceilings naturally just compound the problem.

Extension levels are expensive. Prices range from $219 (8') to $439 (21').  And they are only as good as the person using it. Bubble vials require interpretation, are often  out of calibration and can be easily damaged.

Check out the equipment on any job site and you will find levels with vials scratched out and arrows pointing to the one vial that "sort-of" works!

Lastly, if you're the guy buying these expensive tools, does it drive you nuts when you see them mis-handled and damaged?  And  since a 14' level won't fit behind the seat or in the toolbox. don't you just love it when the crew tosses them in the back of the pickup? Arrrrggghhh!

About Richard Turner

Picture
Richard Turner has over 30 years of experience in the construction industry with a particular specialty in framing. He takes great pride in every project. Richard is a craftsman and a businessman. While his jobs must be done to his exacting specifications, they must also be done on time and on budget. Hours spent re-plumbing walls are unrecoverable labor hours that can cut deeply into the company's profitability.

Richard has always worked hard to keep his business agile. If there is a quicker, smarter, better way to do something, he will make the investment. Whether the team is framing mid-range tract homes or the most complicated custom home with radius walls and dome ceilings, almost every job is based on a hard bid (set price). This means that production efficiency is essential in combination with the project quality which can never be compromised.  When these are skillfully balanced, as Richard demonstrates every day in the field, efficiency keeps costs down while quality wins the next contract!

After watching my crews repeatedly make marks, set the laser on the floor over the mark to align the laser dot with the mark, get a ladder, climb the ladder, use their tape or a block of wood with the same mark as what was made on the floor... Up and down, over and over and over. And the laser was always in jeopardy of getting damaged... I had to do something!
The Laser Plumb is the natural evolution of Richard's continuous attention to quality and efficiency.  The idea was conceived in 2016 when he built the first prototype and put it into production on his own projects.  What happened next amazed even Richard. "We always used regular levels until I built the first Laser Plumb. My crews have since returned all the old levels  and will now only use the Laser Plumb! In return, I get jobs completed more precisely, ahead of schedule and below budget!"

Next came countless hours of design engineering, product manufacturing, applying for and securing his patent pending and drafting the Laser Plumb business plan, all during his free time between framing jobs and raising a family! And just as expected, the production Laser Plumb reflects Richard's technical experience, attention to detail and creative problem solving.  According to one of Richard's foremen, "the Laser Plumb really helps us speed up the process while providing unrivaled precision and quality."

Richard has been happily married to his beautiful wife Kryste for over 18 years. They have two great kids who are a constant source of incredible joy and occasional frustration! As evidenced by the success of ProBuilt  Contracting, Inc. and Laser Plumb, LLC, Richard works tirelessly. But his greatest work has been successfully balancing his devotion to his family and profession.  In the rare instances when he takes a break, Richard enjoys the peace and solitude of the great outdoors.
